How this works
Aircraft broadcast position, altitude and velocity over ADS-B at 1090 MHz, and a worldwide volunteer receiver network aggregates those broadcasts. This page queries that network directly from your browser — there is no server in the middle.
The feed answers one circle of sky at a time, so the world view sweeps continuously through 43 sectors, busiest airspace first. Between a sector's refreshes each aircraft is advanced along its own track and groundspeed, which is why the map keeps moving second by second.

Coverage depends on volunteer ground receivers, so oceanic and polar regions are sparse. Positions between sector refreshes are extrapolated rather than observed. This board is for interest only and must never be used for navigation or air-traffic purposes.
